NEW IN GATE 2010 SCORECARD

NEW IN GATE 2010 SCORECARD

The following changes are being implemented for the GATE 2010 examination:
  1. Results are being declared uniformly for all candidates without considering any category. The GATE scorecard will not have any reference to the category of the candidate. It will be the responsibility of admitting institutes to determine the category of candidates for their admission and assistantship eligibilities.
  2. A GATE 2010 scorecard will contain: a) the All India Rank (AIR) in that year in that paper, b) the normalized GATE score (maximum of 1000) , and c) the actual marks obtained out of 100. Percentile marks will not be provided.
  3.
  4. Qualifying Marks for the paper for which the scorecard has been issued (computed by the already announced procedure (for details click here) will be placed at the back of the scorecard. A candidate will be eligible for availing assistantship funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India (GoI), ONLY if the marks secured are more than or equal to the Qualifying Mark in the category under which the candidate seeks admission. The Qualifying Mark for the General (GN) category in each paper is (a + s) or 25, whichever is higher, where a and s are the average and standard deviation of marks of all candidates in a particular paper, with all marks less than zero, converted to zero. The Qualifying Marks for OBC and SC/ST/PD categories will be 9/10, 2/3, 2/3 and 2/3, respectively, of the General category Qualifying Mark.
  5. Each Institution may adopt its own criteria to decide on eligibility for admission into post graduate programmes in the Institute. They can use any of the rank, the score, or the marks, or a combination. For example, if admission is solely based on GATE results, and the results of only one paper are to be considered, then the rank can be used. If the results of only one paper are being considered, but the performance in a written test or interview is also to be given weightage, then the marks can be used. If applicants appearing in more than one paper are eligible for admission, then the GATE score is likely to be the most appropriate measure to use.
  6. Every candidate appearing in the GATE 2010 examination will get a scorecard.
